Inspiration behind Lacuna Child
Who was my inspiration...
The inspiration behind Lacuna Child comes in the shape of a beautiful redhead, born in December 2017, who changed our lives forever. My eldest daughter became a Mumma, my youngest an Auntie and I became Glammy (derived from knowing I would not be the sensible grandparent)!
What I didn’t expect from my new role was the awakening of a long-time desire to have my own business. An opportunity to tap into the creativity that had been reserved for weekends only, as weekdays were spent working 14-hour shifts in a hospital.
The perfect answer was to create a beautiful, yet practical, collection of children’s clothes. This allowed me to fulfill my desire of having my own business, in a way that also meant I could stay connected to my grand-daughter as she lives in America!
In August 2019 I decided it was time to go for it. I dusted off my sewing machine, began creating and designing pieces, and the rest as they say, is history!
I now have an update to my story...
Our second grand-daughter was born in November and I go into 2021 with new babywear designs buzzing around in my head, inspired by the birth of our beautiful grandchild. As our eldest grand-daughter grows, so does the size range and this will be reflected in sweatshirts and joggers from January 2021.
Behind the brand...
I have added details such as oversized poppers on the sweatshirts and bespoke personalisation, all whilst retaining the necessary practicalities that children’s clothing requires – soft fabrics and comfort being key!
Where possible I have sourced organic fabrics that will not only wear well but wash well too. Whether these pieces are for a special occasion or everyday enjoyment, I want the pieces to go together in different combinations to increase wear and allowing the opportunity to mix and match.
I researched the sizing of many current brands, spoke to many parents (and grandparents) and as a result you will find the sweatshirts a little longer in the body and sleeves, the joggers a little longer with cuffs that can turn up to maximize wear for the pieces.
The sweatshirts and joggers will be staples throughout the collection with new colourways released throughout the seasons.
I hope you like what you see! This has been a labour of love and I’m so grateful for your support.
