Behind the Brand
I started out making my own sweatshirts having sourced organic fabric from a company in Wales. I started out making personalised t shirt with mine and my husband's name our granddaughter knew us by, but my real goal was to make a childrenswear collection. It didn't take long before I knew that I wanted to concentrate on the sourcing amazing fabrics and the important design details I knew had to be included. This meant finding a manufacture. Thanks to taking part in the first Make It British Mentoring course, run by the amazing Kate Hills, I now not only have my pieces manufactured in the UK, they are made in the same county as me! I'll talk more about this experience at a later stage.
Where possible I have tried to source organic fabrics, but more importantly, fabrics that will not only wear well but wash well too. Whether these pieces are for a special occasion or everyday enjoyment, I want the pieces to mix well together to increase wear and allowing the opportunity to mix and match.
My research meant asking my daughter endless questions about the fit of current childrens clothes, what she was happy about, what she wasn't happy about, talking to my friends, who are grandparents and their sons and daughters. There is much talk these days about slow fashion where adult clothes are concerned but the definition of this can still be applied to childrens wear. This is where I really wanted to change the narrative and the conversation surrounding childrenswear so that it reads, buy well, buy left and chose well.
Unfortunately we are all keen purchasers when that cute piece jumps out at us in a shop or online, but really how many clothes do our children really need? By buying less and buying well, garments that wear well and wash well can then be saved for the siblings or passed to cousins, friends children or stored for your childrens, children.
